THE 3338 MEMORIAL RACE
Our annual 3338 Memorial Race is held on the Elands River in honour of our beloved friend and club member, Leatitia Scheepers.
Leatitia tragically lost her life during a training trip on the Elands River on 14 February 2009. She grew up in Nelspruit and, after completing her studies in Pretoria, returned home to practice physiotherapy. Beyond her own achievements, Letitia was deeply committed to helping athletes reach their full potential, showing genuine interest and enthusiasm in their progress.
A determined and dynamic athlete, Leatitia complemented her passion for paddling with cycling and running. She successfully completed several Comrades Marathons as well as numerous prestigious canoe races. Her adventurous spirit even led her to explore the Himalayas and Uganda, always embracing life with energy and purpose.
The Elands Memorial Canoe Race was established in her memory and takes place every February, conditions permitting. Because the race depends on rainfall and water levels in the Lowveld, its scheduling may vary from year to year.
