Our annual 3338 Memorial Race takes place on the Elands River, in memory of our dear friend and club member, Laetitia Scheepers.
Laetitia sadly lost her life doing a training trip on the Elands River on the 14th of February 2009. Laetitia grew up in Nelspruit and after completing her studies in Pretoria she returned to Nelspruit to practice physiotherapy. Her own abilities aside she assisted many athletes with great interest and enthusiasm to their full potential. Laetitia was a positive, determined, multi faceted athlete who cycled and ran to supplement her passion for paddling. She completed a few Comrades marathons together with some worthy completions of renowned canoe races. Her passion for adventure took her to the heights of the Himalaya’s and Uganda and her zest for life knew no bounds. In her words “Ja no jussie, just enjoy the run”! Laetitia this one’s for you!
Depending on the water levels, the race is held in February of each year and is a great qualifying race for the Duzi Marathon.
