WELCOME

Lowveld Canoe Club is perfectly situated on the edge of Lake Longmere, just north of White River. This scenic lake offers calm, pristine waters and is surrounded by woodlands rich with birdlife and natural beauty.

The club provides well-maintained facilities, secure parking, boat storage, and a braai area for members and their families to enjoy. A welcoming community of paddlers ensures there’s always someone ready to share in the adventure.

Members frequently organize weekend trips on the Elands, Crocodile, and Sabie Rivers, and everyone is encouraged to join in. The club fosters a strong sense of camaraderie, and families are always welcome to attend the popular Tuesday evening time trials — an opportunity to relax, socialize, and support fellow paddlers.

CLUB HISTORY

Lowveld Canoe Club was founded in 1985 by Gerhard Steyn, who served as the first chairman, alongside fellow founding members G. Malan (secretary), Johan van Heerden, François De Wet, and Donovan Botes. In its early days, the club operated from Fredenheim Dam, hosting training sessions and time trials until the dam was closed to the public.

The club then moved to its current home at Longmere Dam, where dedicated members worked tirelessly to establish and improve the facilities. Contributors such as Andreas van Tonder (Ikotwe), Leroux de Beer, Mias de Klerk (Micon construction), Dave Mortlock, Mike Adams (WBHO), Craig Lewis, and many others played a significant role in shaping the club into what it is today.

Now nestled beneath towering blue gum trees along the edge of Lake Longmere, Lowveld Canoe Club offers an idyllic setting for paddling and relaxation. Families and members are encouraged to enjoy the peaceful surroundings, connect with nature, and make the most of the tranquil waters.

TIME TRIAL

JOIN OUR OPEN TIME TRIAL EVENINGS – EVERY TUESDAY

Ever wondered what it feels like to glide across the water in a canoe or kayak? Here’s your chance! We’d love to invite anyone interested in the sport of canoeing — whether you’re a complete beginner, a curious first-timer, or just someone looking for a new adventure — to join us for our Open Time Trial Evenings.

How it works:
We host recorded 10 km time trials every Tuesday evening, and after the paddle, we keep the vibe social with a friendly get-together. Sometimes we light up the braai, other times we just share a chat over a cold drink and get to know each other.

If you’d like to give paddling a try, just let us know in advance and we’ll make sure a club kayak or canoe is ready for you — no need to bring your own gear.

Season times:
Summer (1 Sept – 30 April): 17:15 start
Winter (1 May – 31 Aug): 17:00 start (to make the most of the daylight)

Time sheets are shared with all members via our WhatsApp group, but guests are always welcome!

Come join us, have some fun on the water, and experience what makes our paddling community so special.
